23rd Brigade McMinnville August 12th 1862

I, James A. McCullah, Second Lieutenant of Company A. 8th Regt Ky US
volunteers duly appointed and commissioned in the State of Kentucky do hereby
tender through the commanding officer to the war department my commission and
a resignation of my said office and most respectfully ask that the same be
accepted and that I be honorably discharged from the service.

I have been in the service over eleven months and have not been able
for active duties more than half the time. Therefore I find that I am not able
to perform the labor of hard marches and other duties incumbent on me as such
officer.
