Private William B. Murphy

William B. Murphy, son of John Jr. and Catherine Murphy, was born on March 25th, 1843 in Kentucky.  He enlisted in Company C of the 8th Kentucky Volunteer Infantry Regiment in September of 1861 at Irvine Kentucky.  In February of 1862, he contracted measles which left him short of breath and in a general disabled state of health.  He was discharged for disability April 30, 1862 and returned home from camp Lebanon, Kentucky  After being home for a little more than a year he felt that he had recovered sufficiently and re-enlisted in Company E of the 47th Kentucky Volunteer Infantry Regiment on the 16th of July, 1863.  He was discharged as a corporal on the 26th day of December 1864, at the expiration of his enlistment.

 

                He married first Delina Rose on the 23rd of February 1865.  Their children were Dovie, O.D., Spicey, Garrett J., Charlie, and Edward.  Delina died on the 2nd of February of 1896.  He married second, Ellen P. Richardson, the daughter of John P. and Elizabeth Asbill Richardson, in Jackson County Ky., on December 9th, 1896.  Their children were Glendon, Ilene, and Hubert.

 

                William died on the 28th of September 1918 and is buried in the Flatwoods Cemetery at Waco, Ky.  Ellen died February 23, 1922 at Bybee, Ky.   Her brother Burrett C. Richardson was appointed guardian of their three minor children.
