Military Record

Enrolled 23 Sept 1861 at Estill Springs in Co. B., 8th Regiment of the Kentucky Infantry Volunteers to serve 3 years. 

Mustered into service as a Private on 15 Jan 1862 at Lebanon with the same Co. to 
serve 3 years.

From enrollment to 28 Feb 1862 was reported "Present". Was listed as "absent 
without leave" from 7 Nov. to 5 Dec. 1862, restored by order of Col. Beatty 
Commander of  3rd Division forfeiting pay for time absent. Listed as "present" Jan. and 
Feb. 1863. 

Wounded in Battle at Chickamauga on 19 Sept. 1863. Listed as "In Hospital" in 
Nashville, Tenn. since 19 Sept 1863. July and August 1864 was "Transferred to 
Invalid Corps to take effect 11 May 1864. He was Mustered out on 17 January 
1865 in Indianapolis, Indiana. He then was Honorably discharged in 20 January 
1865 in Indianapolis, Ind. 

*Note: enclosed in his pension file are sworn affidavits signed by A. D. 
Powell, George R. Witt M.D., D. B. Scholl, Aaron Floyd, Nathan Elliott, and Dr. 
Blackwell attesting to his service, his character, and their knowledge of his 
disability. His records state the when he was wounded in battle he took a 
shot in the left leg, just above the ankle, in which severe damage was done. 
He also developed a disabling case of "piles". 

According to the affidavits, several of these men knew him several years 
before his enlistment, served with him and continued to know him afterward. 
When he was not serving in the Infantry, he was a farmer.
